Advancing and Communicating the Science of Extreme Weather Attribution
The ability of scientists to attribute extreme weather events (e.g., storms, extreme heat) to climate change has advanced significantly in the past decade. But real-time or near real-time attribution of specific extreme events to climate change is a recent and still-emerging capability. In addition, recent social science research has established that communicating the connections between climate change and extreme weather can increase public understanding and change behavior.
This initiative will combine science, technology, and media to scale effective communication on the links between climate change and extreme weather and reach the most important audience segments via trusted messengers.
