Our current emissions trajectory is heading in the wrong direction to avoid the worst effects of climate change. Decarbonization efforts aren’t scaling fast enough. The good news is we can change course. The Bezos Earth Fund supports innovative solutions to help decarbonize the economy.
Decarbonizing Energy & Industry
Global greenhouse gas emissions continue to climb. Glaciers and ice are disintegrating while communities around the world are experiencing catastrophic storms, heat waves, floods and droughts. This is just a glimpse of what will continue to come at an accelerated pace, if we don’t rapidly reduce emissions.
To avoid the worst climate impacts, we must cut emissions in half this decade and reach net zero by mid-century – across all sectors of the economy. That means decarbonizing power, rapidly exiting coal generation and scaling up renewable energy.
It’s time to put the brakes on the internal combustion engine and pave the way for electric vehicles and other forms of transport. We must electrify industry and buildings and create new fuels for applications that are hard to electrify. Making these transitions achievable both with speed and scale, while concurrently also more affordable and attainable for the global community.
The Bezos Earth Fund invests in projects and solutions that have the potential to focus on spurring just and equitable systems transformations, accelerating decarbonization across key emitting sectors and geographies.
We are focused on building a greener, just, and sustainable future for all.
